Geography

  Rosemary wants to support her family the mountainous terrain of her town makes it difficult to be successful in raising her pigs. Sixty-five percent of the terrain is mountains. So it is very costly to transport pig feed to her town because of the cost of gasoline. Another reason the geography effects her pig farm is that there is only 19% of irrigative land less and that is since 2005! Now because it is 2011 there is probably 7% left of that irrigative land which means there is probably hard to expand her pig farm.Also did you know that the Philippines is slightly larger then Arizona. That’s including sea water! And if you remove all that water. Take that state and turn it in to Vermont. Now because most of that land is not irrigated urn Vermont into Rhode island now because Rhode island is basically the size of the irrigative land turn that and make it into ¼ acre of land and that’s the space she has to work in. but that is jus all the land she has. So now make that land even smaller by putting n the essentials of source of water and a outhouse and a home. And now that is the space you have to raise about 20 piglets.She is also having problems with water. There is 11,375 miles of water in the Philippines. That means fishing must be very popular. So most people will most likely buy fish which means rosemary does not have many customers. There is only 9,631 sq miles of farmland and most of that probably does not support pig farming so she has even less customers and because there is only so much left of that farmland she cant expand which as I said before, even less money for to support her children. Some other problems with water specifically are that there is so much pollution there that water needs to be filtered many times before people can drink it. That means it must cost a lot to filter the water so she needs money for that to. And because of the mountains there is even less water to find that would be overall clean. To conclude that is how geography affects Rosemarie.

 FUN FACTS

Even though there is so many things that can effect rosemary there things about the geography that are just good to know. Like there is 7,107 islands in the Philippines which means that boats are probably a main form of transportation. Also the highest mountain is mount Apo towering at 2,954 meters high! There are also many main bodies of water such as the South China Sea, Philippines sea, sulu sea, celebs sea, and the kuzon straight. Sadly there are many problems with the environment to. Such as uncontrolled deforestation, soil erosion, air and water pollution, coral reef degrading, increasing population of coastal areas, and over fishing. As you can see the geography has some pretty bad problems there to. Also did you know the Philippines capital is Manila and the Philippines coastline is 22,548 miles long. That’s huge but its not as amazing as the Philippines trench going 34,440 feet below sea level, that’s huge! Even though the geography can cause some problems with livestock it has some amazing geography landmarks.
