Income

Imagine making $5.93 per day and trying to start a business. Then add on four kids to support on your own that are still in school. AND your house is a shack. Tha't’s basically Rosemary'’s life. She is trying to start a pig farm in the Philippines, and

she needs a loan so she can buy piglets and pig feed. While people that are plane pilots in the Philippines are making

15,036 per year Rosemary is stuck with $2,125 a year. But even the highest income making jobs are

no match for jobs in the U.S. An average farmer

(that’s what Rosemary is) in the United States makes around $45,000 per year. That’s $42,875 more than Rosemary!!

Rosemary does make more money than some people, but she is DEFINETLY in the

lower half of the population of the Philippines economy wise.

Also, Engineers and Teachers make more than her. The income people get paid is determined on how important their job/business is to the country, town, or village. It also depends on how well the economy is doing. So it shows that Pilots and Engineers are more important to the Philippines than farmers. I can also tell that Medicine and heath might not be a top priority in the Philippines. That’s because an average Professional Nurse makes $4.80 a day, even LESS than Rosemary.

I think it is hard for Rosemary to sell and make money because there are so many people in her area (the town Bindoy Negros Oriental) that do not have much money. So that means that they may not be able to buy anything from her. That is why Rosemary is going to make her business helpful to he community. Out of some of the most common jobs in the Philippines, the highest paying job is a Plane Pilot, and second is an Engineer. The lowest income making jobs are Minors, making $3.30 a day. There are also unemployed citizens. They must live off the land because they have no money to buy anything.

Also there are many natural disasters, which have caused destruction to the Philippines. So, lot’s of money has gone towards rebuilding, and that weakens the economy, therefore decreasing the income for jobs.

Rosemary’s income affects her in so many ways, like her food, home, job/business, health, family and a lot more. There are chain reactions when it comes to income, such as: Rosemary’s income is low = not a good job or business = shack as a home and not a lot of food = health and family issues = needs help = on world vision website = you help by giving a loan!

Rosemary, the single mother of four, who has a poor income, needs help to expand and support her pig farm, and to buy pig feed and piglets.
